AI Policy

Purpose

Biocentra: Journal of Medical and Health Sciences recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies can support authors in improving language quality, manuscript organization, coding assistance, and data analysis. However, AI must always be used responsibly, transparently, and ethically. Authors remain fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scientific validity of all submitted work.

Permitted Use of AI

AI-assisted technologies may be used for purposes such as:

  • Improving grammar, spelling, and academic writing style.
  • Enhancing readability and manuscript organization.
  • Language translation while preserving scientific meaning.
  • Supporting coding, programming, or statistical analysis under author supervision.
  • Generating graphical abstracts or illustrations only when clearly disclosed and ethically appropriate.

Prohibited Use of AI

  • Fabricating or falsifying research data, images, tables, or experimental results.
  • Generating fictitious references or inaccurate citations.
  • Replacing scientific interpretation, clinical judgment, or critical analysis.
  • Manipulating peer-review reports or editorial correspondence.
  • Using AI to conceal plagiarism, research misconduct, or unethical practices.

Author Responsibilities

Accountability
Authors remain fully responsible for every part of their manuscript, regardless of whether AI tools were used during preparation.

Verification
All AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed, verified, and corrected where necessary to ensure scientific accuracy and originality.

Disclosure
If AI tools substantially contributed to manuscript preparation, authors should disclose the name of the AI system, version (if available), and the purpose of its use within the Acknowledgements or Methods section.

AI and Authorship

Artificial Intelligence systems, including generative AI applications such as ChatGPT and similar technologies, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors because they cannot assume responsibility for the integrity, accuracy, ethical compliance, or accountability required of scientific authorship.

Editorial Use of AI

Editors may use AI-assisted technologies only for limited administrative purposes, such as language improvement, plagiarism-support screening, or workflow management. Editors will not upload confidential manuscript content to public AI platforms if doing so could compromise author confidentiality or intellectual property.

Reviewer Use of AI

Peer reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts or review materials to publicly accessible AI systems. Reviewers are expected to prepare independent, objective, and confidential evaluations based solely on their own scientific expertise.

Policy Compliance

Failure to comply with this AI Policy may result in editorial actions including requests for clarification, manuscript revision, rejection, publication correction, or article retraction, depending on the severity of the violation.

Biocentra supports the responsible and transparent use of Artificial Intelligence to improve scientific communication while ensuring that human authors retain full responsibility for the originality, accuracy, ethical integrity, and scholarly quality of all published research. AI should serve as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for human expertise, scientific judgment, or ethical responsibility.
